Can anyone point an Internet marketing newbie in the right direction?

I am a newbie total Internet marketing and I am very upset. I left my job after I had my son five months ago and my husband just got his hours cut at work, so we need extra money. I read in some forums that affiliate marketing can be a great work at home job I can do part time and earn money. So, can someone at this novice?
