Taking night time shots is one of the hardest thing to perfect in photography. That is if you don’t know what you are doing. But if you understand how to take them you can take fantastic photos. On the other hand if you don’t know what you are doing it will look ugly. So here are some tips for you so you can be a better photographer at night. If you follow them you will happy at the kind of photos you take.
First of all, I hate to say it but equipment matters. In other words, you can’t expect a mere point-and-click camera to take great night shots. It just isn’t equipped enough to do that. As a San Diego photographer I have had to learn that only cameras made to take photos at night will work.It doesn’t mean that you shoud have a camera that is specifically made for night shots but you should look for a camera that can shoot in the dark. This one tip is not free and could be very expensive. But as soon as you can buy a well-equipped camera then that would be the start of your taking great night photos.
Second tip is to not be over-reliant on the flash capability of a camera. If you have taken any night shots you will know what I am talking about. It is something I had to learn as a San Diego wedding photographer not to rely on the flash. Instead you have to rely on your camera and it’s features. Know what your camera can do and for what circumstance. This will be helpful to beginners because they can program their cameras to take shots at certain circumstances.
Finally, buy or acquire a lens that will lessen the possibility of a camera shake. Taking photos of many events as helped me realize the problem of camera shake. So doing event photography San Diego has helped me gain experience.I realized that certain lenses can reduce this shake. This will allow you to take crisper night time photos.
So, there you have it. If you follow these tips you are sure to take better night shots.
